The first time I stood in our cellar door after dark, with the barrels all around and the lights low, I thought: this is a room people would want to be in.
That’s largely how the private events at Red Mill started. We hadn’t planned a function venue when we set up in Rozelle. People came through for a tour, sat with a cocktail, looked around at the casks, and asked if they could bring a few more next time. Then a few more after that. So we made room for it.
These days we host two kinds of nights, mostly. The celebration nights – birthdays, anniversaries, the kind of milestone where you want somewhere that doesn’t feel like every other restaurant in the city. And the work nights – client events, end-of-year drinks, team gatherings where the people you’ve spent the year alongside deserve a unique experience
The setting is the distillery itself. Stills at one end, the barrel hall in the middle, and the cellar door over looking it all. It’s a working room, not a styled one. The smell of oak and rum is in the air because that’s what we do here every day.
What we don’t do is one fixed format, one event-pack-as-a-PDF. Every event here is built around your ideas. Some are fun, cocktail-driven evenings. Some are quiet seated dinners with nice wines included. We’re happy with all.
If a room with stills, casks and good spirit sounds like the kind of evening your people would enjoy, drop us a line at 1933@redmillrum.com.au and we can talk through what you have in mind.
David.
